As you begin to pay attention to your different body parts, you may start to become aware of processes that usually go unnoticed.
Your heart is beating, pumping blood into your muscles. Oxygen is being transported around your body, and day by day you are changing and evolving.
Feelings
As we begin to pay attention to our body, we soon notice something really interesting: feelings begin to arise. This might be the feeling of discomfort, or the feeling of frustration because we think weâre not âdoing it rightâ. This may lead to deeper feelings of anger and resentment, and perhaps even shame and self-loathing. But underneath these labelled emotions is a primary feeling tone: either pleasant, unpleasant or neutral. We experience one of these feeling tones due to a multitude of reasons, simply as a result of being human. But identifying the tone of the feeling, rather than focusing on the feeling itself, helps us to avoid getting lost in the story of the feeling. Becoming mindful of our feelings can help us to tolerate and sit with unpleasant feelings as we acknowledge and validate them. Eventually, if we learn not to react to them, they begin to dissipate, because feelings, like all things, are impermanent.
